Blocking Strategy
We have already learnt that Backgammon is a game where the winner makes his way to his Home Board to Bears off before his opponent, yet the Blocking Strategy, is a vital way of obstructing the opposition from achieving this aim.
Prime Blocking
One Blocking Strategy that is an integral part of the game of Backgammon and can even determine a win is called Prime Blocking. Two or more checkers must be placed on a point, and if consecutive points are occupied this can prevent the opponent from advancing around the board. If six points are blocked consecutively, the opponent can effectively be trapped making the blocker more likely to win a Gammon or even a Backgammon with this tactical Blocking strategy in Backgammon
How to Block your opponent
In order to implement this Blocking strategy, players should ideally move more than one of their checkers at a time, establishing Prime Block opportunities for later in the game. The middle of the board is a noted strategic place for creating this consecutive row of points as it can effectively slow down an opponent’s advancement around the board. By implememnting the Blocking strategy in your Home Board you can also seek to prevent an opponent from re-entering the game if he has been ‘Hit’. This tactical Blocking Strategy in Backgammon may take some practice but is an valuable way of achieving success
The Advantage of Prime Blocking
This Blocking Strategy, the Prime Blocking can determine a win in the game of Backgammon. Rendering an opponent powerless to move is invaluable and creates a situation where a player, if holding a Prime Block in his Home Board can even begin to Bear Off whilst his opponent is still restricted in his moves. Slowing a player down or disabling his re-entry to the board is a great way to ensure you are the first player into your own Home Board and redoubling the game at this point is really recommended as a win is almost certain.
